Rites of the Season: A Lowcountry Oyster Roast

This is a photo I took at the 2011 Charitable Society of Charleston Fall Oyster Roast benefiting SCLEEP (Lowcountry Environmental Education Program). The event was held at Bowen’s Island off of Folly Road, and it turned out to be a great event. Palmetto Brewing Co. donated the beer, Firefly donated the sweet tea vodka, Earthfare donated supplies for chili, and Bowen’s Island donated the space, oysters, and labor. The event was a great success, and we (the Charitable Society) are donating the proceeds to SCLEEP tonight. Thanks to everyone, especially our sponsors, who helped make this such a great event!

SCLEEP‘s mission ” is to provide opportunities for students of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds to explore South Carolina’s natural environment through experiential learning.”

The Charitable Society of Charleston is a group of young professionals in the Charleston Area who are “committed to providing volunteer service and funds to local nonprofit organizations that help individuals in our community.”
